What are NMN strips?
NMN, or nicotinamide mononucleotide, is a precursor of NAD+, the molecule your cells use for energy metabolism. Studies of human tissue and blood have reported lower NAD+ levels with age (Massudi, 2012; Clement, 2019), which is why NMN has become a staple of longevity routines.
An NMN strip carries a measured amount of NMN in an ultra-thin oral dissolvable film. How much NMN is in a strip, and is it enough?
A strip is small, so it carries milligrams rather than the several hundred milligrams of a typical capsule. The Smart Strips NMN strip contains 80 mg. Published human studies have used daily intakes from 250 mg to more than 1000 mg (Igarashi, 2022; Yi, 2023; Fukamizu, 2022), so 80 mg is below the doses tested in trials. How to choose an NMN strip
Whatever brand you look at, these are the questions the label should answer.
- How many milligrams per strip? A clear number, not a "proprietary blend". Compare it with the doses used in studies and decide what role the strip plays in your routine.
- Which form? Look for β-nicotinamide mononucleotide, the form assessed by EFSA.
