A pre-workout strip is the opposite of the pre-workout scoop most gyms know. There is no tub, no shaker and no measuring in the changing room: you place a strip on your tongue on the way in, and it dissolves in 7 to 30 seconds.

The bigger difference is the dose. This guide explains what pre-workout strips are, how much caffeine they usually carry, what to look for on the label, and how FCKN FIT and REFUEL split the job before and after training.

01

What are pre-workout strips?

Pre-workout strips are dietary supplements in the form of an oral dissolvable film, usually built around a small amount of caffeine. Part of each dose is taken up through the lining of the mouth and the rest is swallowed with saliva. According to the company, the strip format offers up to 95% bioavailability and is up to 4 times faster and up to 30% more effective than a conventional tablet. Those figures describe the format, not the effect of any single formula.

02

How much caffeine is in a pre-workout strip?

Far less than in a typical powder. When researchers measured popular pre-workout powders, they found 91 to 387 mg of caffeine per serving (Desbrow et al., 2019), and an analysis of 100 best-selling US powders found caffeine in 86% of them, at around 254 mg per serving on average (Jagim et al., 2019). The European Food Safety Authority considers single doses of up to 200 mg and up to 400 mg a day unproblematic for healthy adults (EFSA, 2015).

FCKN FIT carries 20 mg of caffeine per strip. That is deliberate: a light, measured lift before training, without the hour of feeling wired that can follow a heavy scoop.

FCKN FIT strip Typical pre-workout powder
Caffeine per serving 20 mg 91 to 387 mg in one market analysis
Other actives L-carnitine 30 mg, niacin 10 mg, GBBgo 5 mg, tamarind extract 5 mg, chromium 100 µg Varies by brand
Preparation None, on the tongue in 7 to 30 seconds Scoop, water, shaker
Flavour Mixed berries and vanilla Varies
Box 30 strips, $34 ($1.13 per strip) Varies

Niacin contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, and chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels (Regulation (EU) No 432/2012).

How to choose a pre-workout strip

Smart Strips FCKN FIT oral dissolvable strips, box and single sachet
  • Caffeine in milligrams. It should be printed per strip. Add it to the coffee, tea and soft drinks in your day.
  • What comes with the caffeine. Look for named ingredients with amounts, not a proprietary blend.
  • Your sensitivity. A light dose suits people who train in the evening or who react strongly to stimulants.
  • Before and after. A pre-workout strip covers the start. For the hours after training, a separate formula without caffeine makes more sense.

That is how Smart Strips splits it: FCKN FIT before training, and REFUEL after, with 40 mg liposomal curcumin, 20 mg PEA and 10 mg NAD+ and no caffeine. Both come together in the Fitness Ready set. For the full numbers on powders, read caffeine strips vs pre-workout powder.

How to take a pre-workout strip

  1. Open one sachet with dry fingers.
  2. Place the strip on your tongue and press it gently against the roof of your mouth.
  3. Let it dissolve in 7 to 30 seconds. No water needed.

Take one FCKN FIT strip shortly before training. Count it in your daily caffeine total. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or sensitive to caffeine, speak with your doctor before use.
